Hey everyone I'm the new guy. Been lurking around here for a bit and like what I see. Here's my delemma, I'm looking into purchasing a Carrera 1887 with white/silver face with rose gold appointments on a steel bracelet. It's a 43mm, I cannot afford to have multiple watches, so I need a watch that can be dressed up and dressed down. I never wear suits because I'm a firefighter and rarely ever go to events that requires me to dress up to that extent. Do you guys with your infinite wisdom feel that the Carrera 1887 is a great choice? I absolutely love the look of it and understand that the 1887 is a respected movement. Any input would be appreciated. I originally was looking at a Calibre 5 but I feel that it's more of a dress watch and a bit on the small side.

43mm would be too big for me, but if that size works for you, then I believe the watch you've chosen could indeed be worn on any occasion (elegant but with a dash of sportiness at the same time). The 1887 is a very good movement movement. Also, despite the fact the 3-hand Carreras look very nice, the Carrera is a chronograph to me.

Thank you for your reply, could I ask what size wrist you have and what size watch do you normally wear?

6.75". Watches I own are all between 35-42mm, although it's lug to lug size that matters most. I would think twice about anything bigger than 47mm lug to lug.

Ok my wrist is a little over 6.5" but I don't think the watch looks huge, as I normally wear a 43mm

Thats a good choice. Reminds me of the 1887 spaceX. Maybe the heuer01 43mm chocolate will fit the needs as well.

I had a 43mm aquaracer and it seemed fine as far as size, just need a watch that can do double duty and an automatic,

1887 will be the safest choice. I'll recommend white dial (white, not silver) but of course its up to your preferances.

It's a 43mm Carrera 1887, CAR2014.FC6235, black dial, rose gold accents, black alligator strap.

Yeah, I'm definitely set on a white dial and bracelet. Do you guys think the rose gold is too dressy as I've stated I need it to play double duty. I found one at a jeweler brand new at a smoking deal. But by no means is it cheap lol! Because of just that reason I need to make sure it's great for double duty. Thanks to all for their replies btw.

Personal opinion only but, elbeik's watch is a stunner, if I were in the market, well, it may well have been a done deal.

Yeah no doubt that it's very nice, but I would much prefer a white dial and bracelet. But it's very nice though, I'm sure it'll find a nice home.

Last question is what about longevity? Do you guys feel this is a piece that will endure the test of time? In other words could one see themselves at an older age wearing this? I ask more so because of its size.

Yes. It's a Carrera, and the design language has been there before most of us were born.
