    Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and the wonderful world of Tag Heuer.

Growing up I always admired their watches, id often walk past shop windows and just gaze in awe at the beauty displayed hoping that 1 day I would be able to own one.

2 Months ago I made my first Tag purchase - the Connected - mainly as id been a lover of smartwatches since the launch of them a few years back but decided to go back to wearing more traditional watches UNTIL I saw that Tag Heuer were releasing their own one in partnership with Google and Intel.

I completely fell in love with the watch from day 1 and decided I wanted an alternative to the Connected should I fancy a change one day. Now you have to understand that unfortunately I am not one of the lucky people who are able to just pop to the shop and buy myself, my wife her brother and cousin a nice expensive watch (I mean I had to get the Connected on finance) - and I don't mean any disrespect to those who are fortunate enough to do this!

I sold a couple of automatic watches that no longer got the wrist time since the Connected and decided to use the money (£450) to get myself a nice used Tag.

I went from one to the other trying to find one I liked in my price range (which believe it or not there isn't a lot out there for what I had to spend) and decided to make a rash decision and pull the trigger on one from the Bay but all the boxes that I usually base my purchases on were not ticked. The feedback was really good, but the listing was vague, pictures were ok but didn't show much, the box was missing but did include the manual and stamped warranty card and to settle on a price that I could afford I made the purchase using a friends/ family payment via PayPal. The watch should arrive tomorrow so just hoping everything is ok with it, ive posted some pictures below of the watch that's due to arrive if you would like to give me your opinions/ abuse lol

Thanks for taking the time to read and look forward to getting to know some of you more.

    Many Thanks,
    Pete

It looks genuine from what I can see. A little dull in the pictures, perhaps. I would recommend an ultrasonic cleaning and perhaps a little case/bracelet refinishing from an expert would bring it back close to new condition. If you got that for £450, I'd say you've done pretty well, though.

Thanks for your reply and glad to here you think it looks genuine, not sure what the market of fakes is like for these anyway.

Any idea (rough ball park) what that sort of work would cost?

Also... can any tag AD verify authenticity?

Yes, an AD should be able to confirm authenticity.

Not sure on cost for the clean up, but when I sent my quartz Omega Seamaster in to Omega for a battery change, it cost £85. They also changed the seals, pressure tested, cleaned the watch and also gave the bracelet and clasp a little polish up. Not sure if this is standard procedure but you'd hope they'd clean it at least.

An independent watchmaker can do all of this a bit cheaper of course.

So the watch arrived and very happy with it, apart from the minor scratch on the crystal which tbf is barely noticeable.

Nervous that the watch might not be genuine despite looking the part (heard that some replicas are incredibly close tof the real deal) I decided to take the case back off and have a look at the movement. To my understanding the movement should show the serial number but I can't quite make it out as the text is so small.

From the pics below does the movement look good or is it a knock off?

    Thanks

    Welcome Pete!

I'd agree that there isn't obvious red flag on the watch. The movement should be a Ronda 6004- here is a photo of that movement from Ronda's website

I'd also agree that an ultrasonic clean would be a great way of getting the watch back to new (or very close to new!)

Thanks Calibre11, id found a link to their site but for some reason it wouldn't load and couldn't find any images of it on Google :( my concern really is that I could not see the tag heuer inscription or the serial number on the movement but also read after my post that on the newer quartz models they stopped doing it.

I can vaguely make out that it says 'stainless steel' then next to that ' Ronda (and what looks like) 6004-B'

Feel a little better about it now thanks but think ill take it into my AD at the weekend if I get the chance... do you know if places charge to do this?

    Thanks

I don't know about the movement, but the watch itself looks real enough. The fact the movement says Ronda on it would be good enough for me too.

Thanks imagwai, I must say the watch certainly doesn't look like it could be fake and is fairly weighty but just want to be sure based on the way I purchased it.

Yeah I think the Ronda is probably a good sign :)
