Actual 51 but feeling ?
52. It's only days away anyway...
Ach, yer just a youngster still, I have 1* years on you.
More than 1 I suspect...
Hence the asterisk.
Set your alarms for midnight, tomorrow we have a fascinating post about watch boxes....
...it was my wife's idea.
As in 'why don't you do a post about all these bloody boxes you've got on top of the wardrobe?'
I take inspiration wherever I can find it.
It's one reason why I don't have more watches. Nowhere to store the b****y boxes!
You need a lock up
That was a fun read and a nice trip down memory lane.
As I purchased my first TAG Heuer in 1989, I've been able to experience the box/case progression first hand. Unfortunately, the sad reality is that the majority of my boxes have not held up well over the last 30+ years. Except for my early cases that were made of hard plastic, all of them with "soft touch" surfaces seem to be made of ingredients that self destruct with age and/or humidity.
The wooden boxes used in the early 2010s for TAG's top end models are the exception. These are my favorite and the one I own still looks good as new.
Time will tell how the current boxes hold up. The ones made of basically cardboard should be ok, but how about the leatherette travel case? I'm worried maybe not.
Given my experience with my boxes and cases deteriorating over long periods of time, I've started to use 303 Areospace Protectant on the ones with faux leather surfaces (e.g. Heritage Monaco/Autavia boxes) in the hopes that this helps preserve them longer. We'll see...
The green barrel cases don't seem to be very hardy either....
Happy birthday! Awesome work!
This reminded me how much I enjoy the box that came with my Red Bull F1
So tomorrow I was going to post the 'COCO Carrera' post, but I don't think it's going to get done today. So this will now be on Friday. Which means I've had to shuffle some posts around and the Dior Grand Bal has been put back until December. So tomorrow we have a long chat between me and Jim about trying on watches you can't afford...
Nice article , it was fun to find eight of my watch boxes there , and thanks for mentioning me!
Thanks Albert, how could I not mention you?
Interesting discussion guys - would work even better as a video/podcast I think?
And @Jim Dollares, the Baltics are very nice for sure (enough to make me buy one as you know!), but I wouldn't be expecting the same level of finishing as the Tudor.
