Exactly and that is how it should be! That is why I complain about the monstrosity we go with the Telemeter, Skipper, Rake, and Fragment. It would be so much better if it had a less intrusive dome.

The glassbox is a biggy but the other issues (subdial diameter, lugs, case thickness) are relevant as well. No good heritage Carrera to be made with this 39mm case I'm afraid. The case diameter is really not the issue imo. I love my 39mm calibre 5 because of it's proportions. Begs to wonder why the obsession with having the 'too thick for the cause' H02 in a classic Carrera.

Best photo I can find of a FOIS that shows the crystal edge. Similar issue really.

The angles of the dome appear far straighter.

Thanks for taking and collecting all these pics, Hubert.

Honestly, I have no gripes with this Carrera because I'm just so happy to see a dial that's close to the 1960s original. Would I shave off some thickness here and there? Probably. (same formula applies to my waist) But I'll take it.

In short --> I actually like the swollen glassbox look. Then again, I'm a fan of super domed crystals. And I also like the larger subdials too. Feels like a 2018/19 rendition of the past. I'm 5' 7" so anything 40mm and under is my bag. If this case was 41mm it just wouldn't feel right for me. (especially since it's a bezel-less design)

Just bought a house, so I hope to get my hands on one of these in the future but just can't do it now. Got to renovate this place first. The kitchen design is from the same era as my 1163. Maybe earlier. Breakfast feels like a time warp in here.

Thank you again for the pics. Almost as good as seeing this thing in the flesh.

I saw this Fragmente Carrera today, it looks much smaller than 39mm.

Exactly my gripe! It's the curvature if the glassbox dome; it really robs the dial a good 3mm+.

My pleasure! Despite my criticisms, I couldn't pass on it due to it's resemblance to the original.

    Congratulations on the new house!

Thank you! Already started dropping hints to my wife that I want the Jack Heuer book on the coffee table. Let's see who wins.

Update: I've finally fitted the Telemeter strap to the Fragment Carrera...and makes a very big difference. Yes, it's a "normal" strap which throws away the flair of what the designer had planned, but I couldn't get used to that shiny cuff/ strap.

Have to say that I love this watch..absolutely one of my favourites. I know many would like it better at 41mm (@Hubert  ), but 39mm is spot on for me.

Glad you finally fitted the Telemeter strap. I did mine immediately; never wore it with the alligator bund or the NATO.

Just need to get my hands on that ray gun to blow it up a bit.

Looking good David. 39mm is perfect and strap works a treat.

I didn't know it existed but TH released a special edition 39mm Carrera chronograph in 2011, the CAR2210. An Ebay auction mentioned in the forum auction page caught my attention a few days ago.
Apparently the planned AD release was scrapped late in the project but they sold limited numbers through TH outlets if you can believe it.

David dedicated a post to the watch on the blog at the time:

I haven't seen it in person but from what I can find online I really love this 39mm case. The H02 no doubt wouldn't fit but the Sellita Calibre 11 of the Ronnie Peterson LE probably would. In other words a Carrera 7753 with switched subdials ::popcorn::
    Could be good!

That's one of the best 'old school' Carreras I've seen, not fussed about the square hands on the subdials though...

Looks much nicer on the rally strap - all old / throwback Carreras do

Thanks! I’ll save the cuff of the original for another day...
