I do not like Theo and Harris, but I do enjoy a good TAG rant (being a veteran of quite a few myself ) so I'll give it a look later on and see what I think
I saw this yesterday. He gives away his intent at the end of the video, by asking TH to "be involved" with him in the future.
In some ways I agree and I think this video is balanced and not the typical "everything Tag is crap" video. We have discussed it before in the forum and I do think Tag has a general identity problem not really knowing who they are. They try to cater to every category of watch buyer with not a clear thread through the collections that makes the identity of the brand.
What is a Carrera? Well it can basically be anything we think people might buy...
Never heard of him/ the website. Felt like a recycling of tropes found on the internet rather than a fresh take/ insight.
I wouldn't be too quick to credit LVMH with revitalising the Heuer connection: the Carrera and Monaco re-editions came before LVMH, and it was under LVMH that the Heuer-only logo was killed off for almost a decade.
I didn't like the bit where he said Aquaracers needed to take influence from 'history'. No they don't. Please can we not make everything about history and heritage... that's why we're in the mess we're in now where every genuinely 'new' design is roasted on social media. But then what do you expect from someone who dribbles on about vintage Cartier and Rolex. Oh and I wouldn't buy a watch from a watch dealer who needed to be put right on water resistance ratings!
“Watch enthusiasts” have frowned upon TAG Heuer / Heuer over so many things. Whether this, whether that. Well I don’t care. I’m still as passionate as ever! No watch brand can boast as much into motorsports than Heuer/TAG Heuer! (which is my other passion) Maybe they are also envious TAG Heuer is embracing it’s innovativeness being true to its core as “avant-garde” Where else can you see a brand where it makes production in-house Tourbillon movements and at the same time pushing the limits in the world of digital watchmaking? Maybe that’s why they are so confused about TH as they compare & benchmark it with traditional “luxury” brands. Well only true TH enthusiasts will definitely understand
True! In my last visit to Retro Classics Stuttgart, I did the experiment of looking for stickers of watch brands in the stands about automobilia... and the result was: only Heuer/TAG Heuer! No other watch brand!
TH is, without any doubt, the watch brand most closely linked to motor racing
And also professional timekeeping services/devices, mainly for motorsports
I agree, one of the biggest draws for me is TAG Heuer's innovation and willingness to do things differently. It makes me laugh how many 'watch gurus' love to hold up TAG Heuer and say 'they are doing it wrong, they should do it like Rolex' while failing to acknowledge the company is hugely successful doing things their own way.
You got it
I agree in the matter of TG now following a coherent line with their past and legacy. And they keep doing the same mistakes. They are forgetting the Link the same way they have done with Carrera line in the past.
Here in Asian countries such as Korea and Japan, Tag Heuer is well respected. Perhaps it is because we didn't experience the 90s when Tag Heuer was "overpriced" and "badly designed". We somehow are able to appreciate some of the models without historical prejudice. Here a lot of young people's first real good watch is Tag Heuer or Omega seamaster. Or sometimes quartz Cartier Tank Solo.
I'd take the 90s over the 00s... some of the Formula 1s of the 00s are horrific.
I love my TH Formula 1 Chronographs! Thank you very much
You can say that the TH F1 Brand Ambassadors “strategy” worked and did their magic on me! Made me this TH/Heuer fanatic Haha Young Kimi & Young Fernando! My Formula 1 TH Champs!
Those two are a LOT nicer than the one I posted. They don't appear to have the plastic bumber on the left flank for a start, or red crown guards!
Thank you sir rob
Looks like a fake.
Regardless, every watch company sometimes release a 'miss' more than a 'hit' (hint: AP code 11.59).
But yeah i truly think not every company can boast it's history with motorsports like Heuer/Tag Heuer does like mentioned by Kappa_md
Speaking of horology itself, Tag Heuer has done so much, from re releasing Heuer only logo watch, to developed it's own in-house movement (not to mention, avant garde piece like V4), etc. Tag Heuer even have the in house movement Monaco line now. It's a matter of time before they will make Heuer only Monaco with H02 movement, i think.
I guess, some people are just bias towards a certain brand and it clouded their view somehow (watch gurus, i am looking at you). Who said brand like AP didn't lose value when you sell it ? (Which seems to be the cornerstone of most watch gurus out there). So far the only brand i ever made profit of when selling was Rolex and only Rolex. But that is again, not what collecting watch is all about.
Just my 2 cents
There will always be “haters” and “nay-sayers” around.
For me, you can always be proud of the watch brand you are passionate about without being negative of others. That’s just how I view it. We are all attached to a particular brand because we personally believe in the core principles and virtue it stands for. If you are attached to it because of the ridiculous pricetag, then yes, you might look at your watches as an “investment” I stand behind the quality and build of TH watches because from my experience, they have definitely passed the “test of time” Cheers!
Sounds like you are jumping on the bandwagon a bit there! Have you had a good look at the Code 11.59? It has some great details.
Most have slamed it because it is not an RO and because AP dared to do something different.
