Via Hodinkee this morning - a new Carrera will be released next summer in association with "The Rake" which is a high-end menswear journal. It looks like a Caliber 18 Telemeter case again, and it's pretty close to the Skipper though with a flatter-looking blue color for the dial. Probably powered by the same Sellita base, but this one doesn't have the date at 6.

Overall, doesn't look terrible, but I still think these models look a little cross-eyed with the very narrow subdial layout.

I swear that when I read this earlier the Hodinkee article said that the Rake edition would be powered by a different movement to the Skipper..but this is the Calibre 18? Wonder if they would consider fitting the Heuer-02?

I like the design- hope that Ben got paid a design commission ;)

I jumped over here to post this. You guys obviously are more alert.
It's a bit early for a reveal, but I like the watch.

They did say that, but I think they meant that it was a different execution of the 18 - the Skipper had the running seconds deleted and the date moved to 3, where this one just has the date delete compared to the standard Calibre 18

If you pushed the subdials further apart you would make the baton markers even shorter at 3 and 9 (a design choice that irks me) and give the watch that wide-eyed rabbit in the headlights look.

It's not a bad looking watch but it certainly doesn't speak to me. I'm not convinced by the 3 sector subdial at 9 either.

Yes, I think you're right. The blue gives me vibes of the Lipp "Newman"

Anyone here prefer "swiss" to "swiss made" ?

Remember when JCB took over TAG Heuer and said that the vintage editions would be limited to a just a few more? With all of these new editions, it seems to me like that plan has completely has gone out the door.

I tend to like this Rake edition, but I doubt I will get it.

Yes but they have to satisfy the demand for the Tom Brady Vintage Edition, the Alec Monopoly Vintage Edition, the Montauk Highway Vintage Edition, the PCH Vintage Edition, and so on. Limited editions for everyone!

I could be wrong here, but wouldn't the Heuer-02 mess up with the subdial layout?

Wow, I tend to really like blue watches. But this was really, huh, blue...

Yes, I was just trying to imagine what Hodinkee meant by "a different movement"- but I think the explanation above (that is still a Calibre 18, but not a modified one) makes more sense

Yes, I think that makes more sense than to use the Heuer-02 movement.

I really liked the Skipper when it came out and I'm sure it would sell a lot of it was part of Heuers Heritage collection rather than the limited edition for Hodinkee. With that said, I get the same vibes with the Rake and I'd love to go and try it on in the stores, rather than having it sold out in a rather short period of time.

At first I didn't like this, but now I think I like the form, just not the colours, since I don't mind the Skipper.

Yeah it's a cool watch and I really like the case of it (1970s Carrera I think?) and the Skipper is an amazing watch. And even though I often really like blue watches, this is too much. They could've toned down the colours slightly or at least not make them as insanely saturated. With that said, is this the "official" peak of the watch or can it change before it being released in April 2018?

Here's a side by side, to see how this compares to the other two past offerings:

It's a nice little 3 watch collection. Still think there's an opportunity to do a better design with that case, though (if there are any left. Thought that the Skipper was supposedly using the last of them but then another 100 turned up!). I would like to see a flat white or silver (not slightly gold) dial with panda subdials, or a reverse panda. Maybe with a coloured chrono second hand.

The Rake is growing on me, but by no means is ideal. As @Lugduno said, this is a model that I would like to see in the metal first, before buying.
