I recommend getting hold of a book called 'DELUXE, How Luxury Lost it's Lustre' by Dana Thomas. It's a very interesting read, which touches on wristwatches but is mostly focused on fashion - but gives a lot of detail about how 'luxury' goods are positioned. Well worth a read.

My first TAG was a quartz Kirium (the F1 Kirium) and it wasn't until after I'd bought the Aquagraph and the lady in the shop started telling me how to wind it... wait, what do you mean 'wind' it - it doesn't have a battery!!! Innocent days....

I assumed @imagwai was referring to the thickness of the new Autavia line in general, so I responded in kind. I didn't love the thickness of the Siffert I had either

Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed them. :)

Thanks! The @Calibre11 Siffert is my favorite. Kudos to David!

Just spotted that this is still available on the US website ($5800) I thought it was a Limited Edition, but now I read that it was a limited edition of 150 but they changed it to a special edition.

I presume the change was made before they were released, as David mentioned this in his article...

Aaah that makes sense, based on your first post it sounded like quite the scam

Would love to see the watch in the metal! Hopefully we non-Americans will get our chance to try it on!

Have had it on the wrist several times, trying it on, it does not disappoint. I really love this watch, but have yet to actually buy it. :(

I have to say it is pretty nice, even if I'm still not a fan of the overall thickness. I'm still stuck with the Tourneau credit after they "lost" my Siffert so may go with one of these

I have this weird ambitious goal of learning watchmaking, tearing off the rotor and converting it to manual wind, and then adding a flatter caseback to slim down the profile.

Were you happy with the way this was resolved in the end? (happy under the bad circumstances...)

Not at all, in fact it's still technically unresolved since I haven't used the credit and there's almost nothing Tourneau sells that I'm interested in (at least at full retail price). The credit amount is for a standard Autavia, no tax, so I'm about US $1500 underwater on the credit thanks to exchange rate and import duty alone... not to say anything about secondary market value of the Siffert versus a standard Autavia :(

If it was me, I wouldn't let it drop until I was fully compensated. Taking them to small claims court if necessary!
