The new BWD Carrera uses "Fordite" dials, which have quite a cool story:

"Fordite is made from paint residue that builds up over many years in the old fashioned industrial bays of car makers.

It can be scraped up, shaped, sliced and polished into any form and, when used for watch dials, ensures no two are the same.

The Fordite material used in this collaboration has come from the Ford factories in Michigan, USA, from the 1970-1990s era.

“What I really find fascinating about working with the Fordite material is that it is very close to actually being able to create 4D art. As well as the normal 3D aspects, you are actually incorporating time as an additional element. You are quite literally moving through layers of time, of human endeavour. Each layer you uncover represents someone painting a car, and then that car went out somewhere into the world. It’s a very fun concept to have kicking around in the back of your head,” says Black Badger’s James Thompson."

I'm not sure I'd want a TAG that looked like that myself, but it's an interesting material and a great idea to use the paint build-up for something. I just imagine Mr Thompson kneeling down on the floor of the paint booth scraping up chunks of paint between bemused Michigan paint booth workers jabbering on about 4D art (it's not)... furthermore I propose this guy should be shortlisted for the 'Aurel Bacs Award for Pretentious Twaddle' forthwith!

My car must be 4D. As it clearly shows the accumulation of dirt over time.

Also, overblown use of the phrase 'Human Endeavour'. Omega get a free pass for the Moonwatch obviously, but this.... not so much.

Having thought on this a while, I like the fact that these exist. It's not for me, but I like the creativity, still think Mr Badger is full of babble though.

I like how a manufacturing process has created something beautiful as a by product, which people are turning into art. I don't think I want it on a watch, but I didn't know this existed until reading this post, so it's nice to learn :)

I know what you're thinking, but no... this time both hands are red (and it's sold out already apparently!).

I think this might have come out first, as the number for the one red hand model was CAZ101T.

This is proving very hard to find out about! I have found out that it's limited 777 pieces and that no7 was given to Sohn Heung-min (who had a hand in designing the watch) and that No77 and No777 were supposed to be auctioned for charity in August...
