I am torn between two watches. The Monaco Calibre 11 (CAW211P) and the HEUER 01.

I know that these two are totally different watches but I like them both and can only have one for now as I have the new Rolex Daytona Ceramic on order. I had a Monaco Calibre 12 which I flipped a while ago but got excited when the new Calibre 11 Monaco was launched. Never seen the new one in flesh but it looks amazing in online pictures.

Recently tried the HEUER 01 on my wrist and it indeed is a very beautiful watch. You need to see it in person to truly appreciate it.

I will be flipping my Carrera 1887 Jack Heuer Edition (bullhead) for the new watch.

The choice is between classic and modern. My choice would be the Monaco.

The Monaco is an icon, and is a challenge to wear due to its non conformist shape.

You already flipped one, this should tell you something :)

I have to say the Monaco because a. I have one, and b. I think the 01 is overly busy, very clever and great engineering but too much on a watch, My 2p, I'm sure there will many other opinions to came but go with your heart and enjoy.

The Monaco for sure. The Heuer-01 will continue to evolve in the next few years, with lots of new variants to come.

Looks like a clean sweep for the Monaco- that's what I'd choose too. A bright blue square watch isn't subtle, but you've owned a Monaco before, so you'll know how usable they are.

Back in 2000 when I bought my first re-edition, I thought I could never get away with wearing a square watch like the Monaco, so I bought a Monza. Still love that Monza, but as I got more adventurous, I bought a Monaco and never had an issue.

No surprise that everyone chose the Monaco... I am in a similar dilemma, ever since I saw the prototype of the Heuer01 I wanted it. I've tried it on in several shops now and have about 60% of the funds saved, but... every now and then I go off it. The problem is I don't want to blow £4000 on a watch and then decide I don't like it, so I'm really holding off it now. Then I start thinking, there's a black and orange Formula 1 Calibre16 on a black rubber strap that I've liked for a long time too, and that seems to be obsolete (CAU2012.FT6038) and they are much cheaper and potentially could appear in the outlet shops.
But then I think, that new Red Bull F1 is nice, though I'm not crazy about spending that kind of money on a quartz watch. My local jeweler also has a really nice Carrera that's been on sale for months at a very nice discount... I could have bought a Nismo Carrera at Bicester a couple of months ago, and I really, really like the Monaco 24 Concept.

Full disclosure..I am one of the guys who hated HEUER 01 when it was originally announced and how it resembled HUBLOT..how the busy design goes against Jack Heuer's core design principle of a dial's legibility..etc..etc

After trying the HEUER 01 recently, I actually fell in love with it..IMHO somehow Biver has executed it very well and even though it would never satisfy the purist, it will eventually grow on most of us. With HEUER 01 and 02, I can see JC Biver giving people a chance to own "affordable luxury watches".

The history of Monaco and how this particular CAW211P is so close to the original 1133B makes the watch very very desirable. I felt bad after selling my Calibre 12 but happy that it made way for something even better.

As much as I love the HEUER 01..the purist inside me is still shy of accepting it..I will keep an eye on the HEUER 01 evolution and plan to add one in my collection sooner or later but for now it is going to be the Calibre 11 Monaco.

Thank you imagwai, elbeik, Pitfitter446, Hubert, Calibre11 and Aquagraph for your response. I will update this threat with pics as soon as I am back from vacation.

Yeah I think the legibility (or lack of) is the problem I've got with it at the moment!

Had a couple of hours spare yesterday and found myself in a jewellers in Carlisle which, as it turned out was an AD Tried on the Monaco and the 01. The Monaco looked tiny, although tbf I'd been wearing a 52mm G shock which maybe skewed my perspective. Had my heart set on the Monaco too. i realise this is no help to the OP but I sort of have the same dilemma. C or 01. Not until November though

Yeah I've noticed that the watch you are wearing on the day can make a huge difference to your perception of a new watch when you try it on. I wear a quartz 2000 series as an everyday watch which is pretty small, so going from that to an 01 is a big jump. Much different than going from my Aquagraph which is a beast of a thing, not so much in diameter, but in sheer bulk. Incidentally I tried a Steve McQueen Monaco on the other day and it didn't seem to want to sit flat on my wrist, which is worrying for my ultimate dream of a Moncao 24HR

The Monaco looks great but so does the Heuer01 so I'd get both

While i would recommend both of 'em because both are beautiful. I recently tried heuer 01 and i immedietly fall in love with it. Both looks and movement. Yeah sure the classic one between two is monaco (without doubt!). Get both if you can. Which one first ?doesn't really matter.
