I've been thinking about getting a Tag for many years. I was at a local jewelry shop looking for something for my wife this weekend, when I came across a Tag deal that intrigued me. But not being an expert by any means, I thought I would ask you guys whether you thought it was a good deal. They had two Calibre 16s, the 4th generation, one in black, and one in blue (the Leonardo DiCaprio Edition). It's this watch:

After tax, they came to $2600. Seems like it's a good deal from the retail price, but being the older model and movement I wasn't sure. Please give me any advice!

Well, since it retails for $4,450, yes it seems like a good deal, as long as this an authorized dealer. Ask them.

If they are, then make sure to inspect the watch to ensure the winding is smooth and the watch looks new (good shape, no scratches or marks).

I checked and they are an authorized retailer. Both of the watches were new, although obviously not built recently. They both looked great, and based on retail price it sounded too good to be true. But since Tag went to the new movement, I wasn’t sure if these older ones still held value. I’m not planning on reselling, but didn’t want to be “had” buying and older model. I certainly liked them, otherwise I wouldn’t be in this forum posting!

My advice is to not commit to something unless you love it.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Good deals are tempting, but can end up in remorse if you bought the watch solely for the price and not because you like it, as @Hubert said.

I suggest you browse the photo gallery thread to get acquainted with the various models and how they wear.

I wouldn't have thought age would be an issue given it's new, for a watch you plan on holding indefinitely. If a 5yo Monaco came up new at near half price I'd jump on it!

This is absolutely correct. Go in wearing the clothes that you will be wearing the watch with, try it on. Check it out in a full length mirror. If you love it, buy it. If not, buy something else.

Thanks guys! This is a watch I looked at years ago when I ended up getting a Hamilton, so it's been on my radar before. Just didn't want to spend retail price on it...and with the price drop, I think I'll have to jump on it!
