Hmm I would not trust this ad from ebay. Ebay has a long history of making money off and allowing for criminals to keep selling fakes, just look at all the horrific stuff in our "is this fake watch real?" thread...

Can someone read the terms and conditions? Would be interesting to hear what happens if you buy a "good" fake that these "third party authenticator experts" confirms as real. Or did I miss that part in the ad?

Also, who pays for this? Is it the seller who pays a higher sales fee to ebay? Nothing in life is free and I would never trust a free authentication service that quickly looks at a watch to confirm its real or not...

We can't even trust TAG Heuer to authenticate their own watches, so.... unless James Biz is working for eBay.

There is an Omegaforums thread which covers this topic.

I still do think this is a welcome development. I don’t see any issue if eBay can legitimize authenticity and verification. It is added protection for the buyer. The issue is basically TRUST. But will you trust the seller more than you trust eBay which is the platform you used in the first place?

eBay is still a go to market vs chrono24 IMHO. Unless someone can recommend a better option?

I've bought some spare parts off Ebay and only one watch, which I was very paranoid about the authenticity of. The more I checked the photos of it, the more I was concerned I'd missed some obvious flaw! With all the fakes, and poorly described listings, and Ebay's hopeless response to the reporting of fakes, it's AD or nothing for me now. Which is more expensive, but the peace of mind is worth it :) I do still buy TAG Heuer accessories from Ebay though!

I haven't looked at the details but I just don't see how Ebay are going to be able to physically inspect these watches.

Presumably have the watch shipped to an inspector before it is shipped to you?

Ebay loves its shipping - and making money from it. Sounds just like the Global Shipping Program - Ebay steps in as an intermediary, to offer a compulsory value added service no one asked for, and charges a large fee for it.

Some of the Aquaracer 300m fakes are so good, that I would bet they could fool many watchmakers. Unfortunately, the fakes now tend to fall into two categories: laughable and so-good-it's-scary

Ebay is fine if you are sensible. Should you buy a current range Aquaracer that looks perfect for £700 - absolutely not. Should you buy a 20 year old S/EL that looks genuine - I would and have. I'm afraid it's common sense
Exactly, the only place anyone should buy a 300M Aquaracer from is an AD. I wouldn't even buy one from Watchfinder.

Class A replica and fakes are SO GOOD even watch shops & retailers have a hard time identifying which are GENUINE. Alot of videos uploaded in YouTube about this. It’s really scary because the similarities are astounding no matter how astute a connoisseur you are!

I think Otto is asking if the chrono version should also be bought from an AD or if shady sellers are worth taking a bet on when it comes to the chronos.

My answer is simple, never ever buy anything if you are not 100% sure its genuine

It's a valid question though - is anyone aware that convincing AR chrono fakes are definitely circulating?
