Following the Limited Edition Carrera story that I posted last week, I got in touch with a US collector who owned one of the few Carrera 1969 Chronographs. I asked if he would take a few shots and share the story of his watch, which he's kindly done below

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've always been a fan of the "modern" TAG Heuer higher end watches during Jean-Christophe Babin's run. I believe the 1969 came out just after his run and I think he had his hand in it? I love the way the watch looks. It's one of the best looking if not the best looking modern TAG Heuer in my opinion. I also own a brown rosegold Mikrograph and that is a looker too. I especially love how the date is displayed on the watch. Gold being the current date while the other stays white is just gorgeous.

The over all layout is different than the average TAG Heuer as well. I like the split style like the Mikropendulum. But I think the color combo on the 1969 is much better than the Mikropendulum. I don't wear the 1969 daily but it's in my rotation, so it might get wrist time a few days out of the month.

I've bought a few expensive TAG Heuer over the years so my AD saves special pieces for me. But honestly I haven't bought any new TAG Heuers for several years, with the exception of the Aston Martin F1 that was just too cheap to pass up. But that's like a play watch for me, sort of speak. Nothing really interests me in the product line and I really hope they come up with unique and more interesting pieces in the future.

Oh one last thing, my wife thinks the 1969 looks like a Seiko....
    :(

Thanks for sharing! Very lucky sir!

In principle, the Calibre 1969/CH80 and Heuer 02 movements are the same right?

Yes, same basic movement. A few upgraded parts and higher power reserve (for the Heuer 02), but the same basic movement.

I missed this first time round as I was drooling over the photographs, but that quote is nearly grounds for divorce!

So good to see photographs of the 1969 in the wild. Good work on the scoop @Calibre11.

It's actually shockingly well done in person, very reserved.

(Had the luck to encounter one in the original New York TAG boutique back in the day; would have bought it but I think it was something like $12,000 which was far above my budget at the time)

Yeah, but it already looks a bit battered... I don't think I could cope.

I still remember when you shared this story on the forum back in 2015.

My Ex. I sold it almost year ago to US. Now I have to say that I miss the watch already:) Probably never going to own one again.
