Interesting story. Guess he really was ready to move on and thought this was a cool way to pass it to a new owner.

Wow! I never thought this story would be so close at home! (Manila, Phililpines) Wow! I started to fell in love with TAG Heuer because a very good friend of mine had the same 2000 Professional series which would later on to become the Aquaracer Gen 1 (thus i got an Aquaracer) Very intersting story. I also did a paper on the Biography of Bill Gates way back in college. Just wow!

 

It feels good to belong to such a strong community: Johann and his father, Bill Gates, Calibre 11, ...
Not quite sure about the order of the names.
Perhaps, one day, the blue 2000 will be referred to as the „Gates“, similar to all our McQueens, Sifferts
and Rindts. ;-)

This story hits close to home for me too. I lived in the greater Seattle area in the 90's. My home was fairly close to the Microsoft HQ campus and it was when I also got my 2000. While the original TAG F1 was my first TAG Heuer, I always viewed the 2000 as my first real grown up watch. (Because the plastic-like F1 seemed more like a toy, but a really cool toy. LOL)

IIRC, I paid around $600 (just like in the story) for the 2000 back in 1990. Still have it.
