This story hits close to home for me too. I lived in the greater Seattle area in the 90's. My home was fairly close to the Microsoft HQ campus and it was when I also got my 2000. While the original TAG F1 was my first TAG Heuer, I always viewed the 2000 as my first real grown up watch. (Because the plastic-like F1 seemed more like a toy, but a really cool toy. LOL)
IIRC, I paid around $600 (just like in the story) for the 2000 back in 1990. Still have it.
