There is and rightly so, IMO. The Basel prototypes have been disappointing. It could be that dealers are giving them the same feedback and things will change.

I am told that there are more exciting releases due later in the year..... I have no details though.

I could look at @Ara 's photoshopped GMT all day... except it hurts too much.

Considering the last 2446 screwback GMT to sell at public auction brought $60,000 just a few months ago, TAG would have absolutely been the talk of Baselworld had they gone with a new Autavia GMT. Instead they choose to crap out a meaningless and utterly forgettable watch that will not sell in any significant quantities.

Anyone seen this? Don’t know where OTD got these photos from.

The same photos are on this web site too. The models were not officially launched at Baselworld.

    They look awful!

I suspect it is worth a dedicated thread on this topic though.

    Synopsis
    1. Not a nice watch. Even allowing for it being a prototype - Can't see it competing with other options.
    2. Not coherent with autavia brand...
    3. Franken watch approach not coherent with the heuer heritage brand approach
    3. Odd choice of movement to take as the basis

Should have started from heuer02 autavia and made a gmt chrono.

Is it really that bad? I think "normal" non enthusiasts might like the look of it. I think a lot will come down to pricing, if they want >3000 dollars for it I think it will be a hard sell.

Ignoring nostalgia, my "concern" as it were, is where does it sit between the Formula1 and Aquaracer.

I imagine that it's existence is due in part to the BlackBay and 65 and there have been calls for the return of a more traditional dive watch (eg 980 and or 844 style), so here it is.
    Except it is isn't.

It's all a matter of taste of course but not to mine.

The dial is low quality (Ok so it might be a proto but you can only judge what you see.....)

I would also say that the bezel + font seems huge and unbalanced. I think some felt that on the heuer 02 autavia.... for me it is exaggerated here - Caused by the plain dial and thin case?

There is no way I would pick it over the alternatives especially if I had no sentimental connection to heuer brand

Besides watch guys and girls not a lot of people are familiar with the Autavia. It’s not a household name like the Carrera. It is however the quintessential Heuer racing watch with a strong heritage and fanbase. Wouldn’t it be a better idea to tell a more consistent story true to the Autavia heritage and build awareness today? I’m thinking stellar contemporary chronographs that appeal to people that have never even heard of the Autavia. The recent Autavias are great examples of this. Viceroy tributes, more colourful dials, etc.
Would Omega ever consider a time only Speedmaster?

Omega clearly value their brand and history, so no.

It's just a matter of time when TAG will release these. It has already happened with the Carrera (unfortunately too many times) & the Monaco so the trend here will be no different. Call me crazy but I think the non-GMT version does not look too bad at all ::screwloose::
