Autavia Calibre 5- after a couple of years, what do we think?

Saw this photo this morning which was a reminder of how good looking the watch is

But I don’t see many- I wonder how successful it’s been. The Isograph problems were messy, but I’ve always felt this is an interim design necessary to bridge the gap between automotive and aviation. This one is right in the middle. If they go down the path of a full pilot watch design for the next model I feel it would be more distinctive and give the Autavia its own corner of the TAG Heuer world.

I want to like it, I really do. At the pricepoint it would be a realistic purchase for me. But I've tried it on two times, second time hoping that maybe I was wrong the first time around. But nope, I just don't click with this one. Can't really tell why though, like you say it does look great in many photos.

They did a great job with the dial- beautiful finishing. The watch would be a lot less attractive if it had a flat black dial.
Also too much text on the dial- not sure we need “Automatic” and “Chronometer”- when the Isograph movements were dropped, they should have just deleted that line of text

I doubt I would ever buy one, but I really like that it has it's own look and it's not a remake of a watch that came out 50 years ago...

For me it's just too similar to an F1 model, with all the BIG numbers. Smoke dials usually tempt me, but not here

It already looks a bit dated.

I still think it's a handsome watch. But for me, it's not an Autavia and hence I'd never buy one.

It still doesn't float my boat, I'm afraid. I just don't know what it is trying to be.

How can a 'retro-inspired' watch look dated?

I agree, it’s a great looking 3-hander! :) For the uninitiated, this might be a very good option (or entry point) But for a TH nut like me, the Autavia is already cemented as “racing & motorsports” and thus this design didn’t worked quite well for me

I quite like them, but there are a few things that make it not one for me. And the Autavia name on it is still wrong.

They should have flipped the name around and called it the Aviauto :cautious:

If it's supposed to be a pilot's watch why does it have a dive bezel

Isnt it supposed to be a pilot watch for people driving automobiles?

If it is a Pilot watch then why only 1 bezel, not 5?

It's obviously not a design that would have been released 50 years ago, henco retro and not vintage. Retro doesn't age well.

It's a classic TAG identity crisis, that's for sure!
