Yes, it’s sad that TH is not continuing with this great concept.
On the other hand, the end of the modularity means that we own the only Modular watch ever, which makes it even more special, exclusive, and relevant in the history of watches. For this reason I’m not disappointed, because now I love even more my Modular collection :)

I’m also saving money because I’m not going to buy the 3rd gen of the THC. If it’s not compatible with our Modular system, it doesn’t interest me. The Modular concept was one of the main reasons because I bought the Modular 45

Good point, but unfortunately smartwatches age pretty quickly, very shortsighted of TAG to discontinue!

Sure, but to be honest I was expecting it. Most likely the modular concept didn't pay off financially and even luxury brands have to make profit.
Also smartwatches must be challenging in terms of fitting components inside and the modular concept was taking space away. In comparison to the Modular 45 and 41 the new model will be equipped with rotating crown, additional shortcut pushers, heart-rate monitor etc.

Anyone knows if these will be available at launch like the Modular 45 was? And if so, where? Online? Boutiques? ADs?

The Modular Connected sales were three times higher than the first Connected, so the Modular concept sure helped this growth

Maybe the profit for the watch itself was not so big as usual because of its higher production costs, but the Modular concept made that some of us spend much more money than expected in TH because of the available Modular accessories and mechanical modules, so I guess it was a good global business anyway for TH ;)

Yes, like many other smartwatches in the market at half or third of price of the new THC

The Modular concept made the second THC unique and different from any other watch and smartwatch. No other watch brand in the world has done it, it’s a brilliant system and innovative concept, exclusive from TH. Not beeing modular, the third THC is just another -expensive- smartwatch...

Got to say, I bought in -- both analog modules, and a number of bands to boot ... so at least from my small sample size, I was very profitable for TAG.

Yes, you can get a nice Fossil 5 with the same rotating crown and CPU for a fraction of the price ...

I will reserve complete judgement until I see it, but this seems like a step back!

So glad that I bought a Calibre 5 automatic head recently. Without this, the whole modular experience would be pretty much a waste of money going forward. I don’t have much confidence in TH supporting the 45 and 41 software in the future.

I would say that after another 2 years, the software smartwatch modules will be obsolete, and then there is just the rapid aging that happens to any smartwatch, batteries, etc.

Which is why it is pretty stupid of Tag to not continue them in some way, shape or form.

Yes, JCB was correct that the Connected 45 will be connected to eternity, expect to use the analog modules for years to come!

New Tag management certainly does not get any of this, I'm afraid.

I am sssooooooooooo dissapointed. Thats life...
Its sad that TH do not follow this threads.
Its a pitty that their main goal is to make money not to make customers happy. Stupid for them that they do not pay attention about what we are writing here.
I trusted TH and can say i am a fan.. but i began to doubt myself. Its annoying.
For all the new TH owners... have fun with your new common Samsung like SmartW. CM45 is weak ..not fast low functionality but still love it because its unique concept. I do not need HR monitor..speakers eSim and all that shitt. Notification and Look is enough for me... i am pissed off because i know in 1 or max 2 years it will die. Its possible to begin search a new module at low price. ..... i am coursing....endless. fk

I've just recently changed my omega's strap to bracelet... I feel sorry for people committed to modularity, but I still can't really get it. Perhaps, because I bought 41 with a fairly limited choice of straps.

I guess that you must be extremely big fan of TAG to buy so many straps, but the majority out there want smart watch, not a strap and not even the mechanical module. It is a niche market after all.

It's a chunky watch too and you would have to keep it that way I think to preserve modularity concept limiting its market potential in retail business.

Ah, it was all there, Swiss engineered, and made easy to acquire. Don't regret any of the purchases, but foolish of TH not to continue. Something political with the departure of legendary visionary JCB I fear.

I think this is the way they punished Mr Biver. Crush Modular concept... Bivers dream come true.

Don’t worry :), I’m committed to modularity and for this reason I will keep with my Modular 45 and I’m not moving to the 3rd gen Connected. I’m fine, but I think TAG Heuer could sell much more of these 3rd gen Connected -also- to current Modular owners if it were compatible with current Modular system. It’s sad for TAG Heuer, not for me

And yes, the Modular 41 is not so brilliant as the 45 in its modularity: it has just one mechanical module available (Calibre 5) vs three for the 45 (Calibre 5, Calibre 16, and Heuer 02 Tourbillon), and much less available straps, and even some of them more oriented to female taste, as the pink leather strap. So for men, the 41 offered clearly less modular options  For instance, there’s no brown (nor black) leather strap available for the 41, which is one of my favourite combos

    D3DBB613-BAA3-441E-B74B-E7148C1F813B.jpeg

TAG Heuer sold 15.000 from the first Connected (not Modular), and 50.000 from the Modular, so it seems the Modular concept was helpful and successful here. When you pay -at least- two or three times more than for any other smartwatch in the market (including the best Apple Watch), you are looking for something more than just a smartwatch... and the modularity was something that any other smartwatch had

Chunky watch? The design is the same from the 43 and 45mm Carrera Heuer 01, Heuer 02, and Heuer 02T. But I think there’s also a problem here with the 41 version: when TH resized this 43/45mm Carrera design to 41mm, the result was not so balanced and it looks chunky vs the 45: too thick bezel and too big lugs for the 41 size.

I don’t think modularity concept limits the market potential, I think it helps the market potential... it’s obviously the decision from the current TH management, but then I take the decision to not buy the 3rd Connected.

One cool idea would have been to release simultaneously with the new Connected 3 a new 45mm smartwatch module for the owners of the modular concept, based on the new smartwatch, but with some concessions in specs, e.g. same screen, same processor, rotating crown, but no heart rate monitor, or a slightly smaller battery.
...one is allowed to dream of impossible things.

:D It’s not modular like Mark2, maybe it will not have either a program to interchange it for an automatic Carrera 5 after two years like Mark1... and these two facts were helping Mk1 and Mk2 buyers to overcome the fear of spending so much money on a smartwatch that could be obsolete or useless in relatively short time... so maybe you could be right ;)
